To be a premier hub of innovation, research, and entrepreneurship that drives self-reliance and technological advancement in West Bengal and beyond.
To foster research-driven startups through robust incubation, mentorship, and funding; bridge the gap between industry and academia for impactful solutions; drive sustainable societal growth through innovative technologies; and empower students and researchers to become pioneering change-makers.
Jadavpur University, originally established as the National Council of Bengal in 1906 during the Swadeshi Movement, was founded on the principles of self-reliance, indigenous innovation, and technological advancement in West Bengal. The movement aimed to break free from colonial dependence and develop India's scientific and industrial capabilities, a vision that continues today through Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The university was closely associated with pioneers like Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, Satyendranath Bose, and Satischandra Dasgupta, who laid the foundation for indigenous research and technological entrepreneurship in West Bengal and beyond.
Renamed Jadavpur University in 1955, the institution has grown into a leading hub for research, innovation, and startups, fostering entrepreneurial mindsets and industry collaboration across West Bengal and India. The university's Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) actively promotes idea incubation, prototype development, and startup acceleration, supporting students and researchers in transforming their ideas into impactful ventures. Various incubation centers, seed grant programs, and industry partnerships facilitate cutting-edge research in fields like AI, healthcare, sustainable energy, and deep-tech innovations.
Jadavpur University's startup ecosystem thrives on cross-disciplinary collaboration, engaging students from engineering, science, arts, and management to develop market-ready solutions. With support for student-led startups, patent filing assistance, and mentorship programs, the university has nurtured several successful ventures in West Bengal and across India. The emphasis on hands-on learning, industry partnerships, and societal impact-driven entrepreneurship ensures that Jadavpur University remains a key player in West Bengal's and India's innovation landscape.
From the Swadeshi Movement to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the university's commitment to self-reliance, innovation, and startup culture continues to drive West Bengal's technological and entrepreneurial growth, strengthening India's journey toward global innovation leadership.

A specially formed center established by Jadavpur University to create an innovation ecosystem. Its key responsibilities include:
"Jadavpur University Society for Technology Incubation, Creativity, and Empowerment" - A platform (for Internal & External) that enables startups and the implementation of technological innovations.
Also, Jadavpur University fosters innovation through student clubs and chapters, where faculties from Arts, Science, Engineering, and Interdisciplinary Law & Management collaborate with students for hands-on learning. These clubs, both registered and informal, serve as hubs for creativity, technical excellence, and entrepreneurship. Operating autonomously, they provide interdisciplinary exposure, industry collaborations, and global competition opportunities in robotics, AI, finance, and more. Their activities align with JU's innovation goals, contributing to its startup culture. JU actively supports these initiatives, integrating them into university programs, while collaboration with the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) further bridges academic research and market-driven innovation.
